Aqua Rugby – Sydney 2022
Role: MDE Projects provided a full service across consulting, design, engineering, installation and removal of the pontoon.
Client: Aqua Rugby Australia
Event Description: Aqua Rugby is a 3-day floating rugby festival, with full-contact matches played atop a 30 x 30-metre pontoon where players dive off the floating pitch into the water to score a try and can be crash-tackled off the side of the pontoon.
Fun Fact: The MDE Projects team assembled approximately 3,000 cubes into the water at Manly before synthetic turf was glued to the floats to soften the fall for the players.
Nawi Cove – Sydney Festival 2018
Role: MDE Projects provided a full service across consulting, design, installation and removal of the pontoon.
Client: Sydney Festival
Event Description: A large-scale art installation to celebrate fisherwoman Barangaroo, the influential and resilient Cammeraygal woman after whom the place is named. On 10 special days across the Festival, Four Thousand Fish invited patrons to visit Nawi Cove and create their own frozen fish using seawater and a cast mould.
FOCK – Festival Of Canoe & Kayak 2022
Role: MDE Projects provided a floating stage for live music
Client: The FOCK
Event Description: This event was three days of non-stop excitement at The Gangurang, Kangaroo Valley. From the blues and brews floating concert on a Candock Australia floating stage, to adrenaline-pumping activities like canoe polo and dragon boating.
Vivid Sydney 2023
Role: MDE Projects provided a 150-metre walkway across Darling Harbour. The walkway provided access from Harbourside to Cockle Bay. The idea is to allow visitors to experience the delights of being on the water, while in the middle of Darling Harbour.
Client: Visit NSW
Event Description: Vivid Sydney is an annual festival of light, music and ideas, held in Sydney, Australia. It includes outdoor immersive light installations and projections, performances by local and international musicians, and an ideas exchange forum featuring public talks and debates with leading creative thinkers.
Fun Fact: With 3.28 million attendees across 23 days and nights, thousands of people crossed our walkway each night to enjoy the lights and displays in Cockle Bay.
2023 Sydney International Boat Show
Role: Installation and removal of all pontoons and floating docks at the Sydney International Boat Show.
Pontoons are craned into the water, pushed down the river, and bolted together in various configurations with a number of engineering challenges. Getting a high-end Rolls Royce into position was not what you would expect at a boat show!
Client: Boating Industry Association
Event Description: The Sydney International Boat Show is an annual event held in the heart of Darling Harbour across 4 days. With over 45,000 visitors each year there are hundreds of exhibitors and even more boats. On display, you will find paddleboards, power cruises, sailboats, and superyachts. It’s all about boating, watercraft, merchandise, and marine tech.
Fun Fact: MDE Projects have been installing the marina for the Sydney International Boat Show for more than 9 years. With a team of 7, the installation and removal is a 10 week project!
Forage – Orange F.O.O.D Week 2023
Role: MDE Projects hired a floating stage for the band to perform at its best in a private dam, and provided a bridge to take visitors from one property to another.
Client: Food Of Orange District
Event Description: Forage is an annual event run by FOOD Week in Orange NSW. A thousand people attend the 4km event walking through vineyards enjoying local food and wine. Putting the stage on the water added that extra wow factor for guests. Space on water is an under-resourced area that leans itself to providing a great atmosphere.
Fun Fact: The existing bridge between properties floated away in the 2022 floods, so MDE Projects quickly jumped in to provide a solution through the hire of the bridge. Then, in the days leading up to the event, there was some bad weather and heavy rain resulting in the need for some modular floats to offer a 13-metre walkway across a grassed area to keep visitors from getting wet feet.
Afloat Melbourne – Annually
Role: MDE Projects provides a full service across consulting, design, engineering, installation and removal of the pontoon that supports the floating restaurant and bar.
Client: Afloat Melbourne
Event Description: Afloat is a floating restaurant and bar that pops up on the Yarra River (Birrarung) every spring, for summer. The images you see here are from when the Afloat hosted “Arbory” for a season.
